How do Birth Control Pills Effectively Prevent Pregnancy?

When it comes to prevention of pregnancy, birth control pills are usually regarded as highly effective methods. There are quite a few female contraceptive methods although oral contraceptive pills are the most dynamic and effective ways. These pills are a specific medicine type which has hormones. These come in packages containing multiple pills, with people required to consume one at a time. These pills are mostly affordable, safe to use (as per doctor’s consultation and advice) and also effective if taken in a timely way. Along with keeping pregnancy away, these pills have several other advantages as well. These pills function effectively by ensuring the stoppage of sperm from joining with eggs and this procedure is known as fertilization.

The hormones contained in the pill will help in stopping ovulation. The absence of ovulation indicates that no egg is present to be fertilized by the sperm. As a result, pregnancy will simply not be possible. The hormones in the pill also thicken the mucus present on the cervix. This thick mucus enables blockage of the sperm, preventing it from swimming to fertilize with an egg. Birth control pills are usually 99% effective if they are taken and used suitably. However, forgetting to take the same or simply missing them out altogether, are common reasons why effectiveness ratios come down to 91% on an average. This means that approximately 9 users out of 100 users of these pills get pregnant annually, according to several studies and reports.

How these pills work is mostly dependent on the time you start consuming the same and type of pills being used. You can commence consumption of this pill on any day of any month, depending upon medical advice and also upon your own preferences and sexual habits. Yet, depending on when you start consuming the same, you may have to start using backup methods like condoms for a week or so at least as per reports. You should consult your nurse/doctor to work out the best time to start taking birth control pills. If used in the right manner, they can effectively help in preventing sudden pregnancies.
